Modern Furniture
Modern furniture is introduced to contemporary audiences
in the same way that new fashion is introduced. Critics see the newest
pieces on display at shows. The pieces are much more expensive than
you would expect to pay at a retail store.
You can see new modern furniture at upscale galleries in urban centers.
One such center is in Soho, a district in New York City. Don't be surprised
to see items like couches selling for upwards of $10000-$15000.
Eventually the styles of pieces of modern furniture that sell well
at galleries are copied by larger furniture makers. You will see similar
furniture at a mainstream retailer, but it will take months for it to
arrive there. If you wait long enough the furniture sold at Sears will
sell for a fraction of the cost and resemble its forebears.
