Furniture and decor

Our site is designed to educate about furniture as it relates to decor
as well as cost and environmental problems.
Furniture is as much a part of your daily life as your clothing. You
begin the day eating at a table, spend your day working around furniture
and go to sleep with bedroom furniture. No doubt that 9/10 of your day
is spent with pieces of furniture to make you feel more comfortable.
Because we spend so much time with furniture it's important to make
sure that the items we choose are both functional and attractive.
Most white-collar workers probably spend about eight to 10 hours in
the work environment. White collar work requires a tremendous amount
of sitting and desk work. Therefore, furniture manufacturers have responded
by marketing ergonomic contemporary furniture to make the work day less
painful.
Companies spend over $1000 on an Aeron chair for a person with back
problems. In fact, some businesses feel that the comfort of their workers
is so important that they buy these chairs for all of their staff. If
you walk into the modern workstation of the Christian Science Monitor
you will be impressed not only by the LCD screens (also furniture) feeding
news from all over the world, but by the fleet of Aeron chairs.
Offices are also increasingly using green furniture, also known as
sustainable furniture. These pieces have a low carbon footprint. Their
manufacturers use recycled materials to minimize landfill waste. In
addition, timber is harvested from responsibly managed forests in order
to prevent deforestation. Manufacturers employ techniques to reduce
waste in their factories where the furniture is made. 2008 will be the
first year to feature industry standards for green furniture and sustainable
furniture.
The majority of consumers would rather leave decisions about office
furniture with their boss and instead focus on home decor. However,
green furniture is also making its way into the home. The growing market
of sustainable furniture in the home suggests that green furniture gives
people a feeling of comfort amidst turbulent times.
When you are looking at home decor there are a host of decisions to
be made and sometimes it can feel overwhelming. Interior decorators
recommend starting with one room that feels like it's the most important
to you and begin there.
For example, if you have a large family and you and your spouse see
the bedroom as an escape, then shop for bedroom furniture. Bedroom furniture
usually includes a frame for your bed, a bureau with mirror or separated
floor standing mirror, a vanity, a side table and a least one lamp or
source of light. You can buy bedroom furniture in sets or shop for each
piece à la carte. Bedroom sets are usually less expensive-they
range from $1000-$5000-but some people feel that a more eclectic set
of pieces suits them better. If you have eclectic taste then you might
pair contemporary furniture with more avant-garde modern furniture and
combine a piece or two of classic Oak furniture, leather furniture,
and teak furniture. Remember though, the more looks that you use, the
greater chance that you may overwhelm your guests, so you have to pick
carefully.
